ABSTRACT

Objective To summarize and analyze the features of liver function in pediatric patients infected with Delta variant versus Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS - CoV - 2). Methods In this study,an analysis was performed for the liver function test results of the locally transmitted or imported pediatric patients with SARS - CoV - 2 infection during isolation who were admitted to Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital,Guangzhou Medical University, since May 21,2021,and the clinical data and the constituent ratio of liver injury were compared between the pediatric patients infected with Delta variant and those infected with Omicron variant. The independent samples t - test or the Mann - Whitney U test was used for comparison of continuous data between two groups, and the chi - square test or the Fisher's exact test was used for comparison of categorical data between two groups. Results A total of 85 pediatric patients infected with SARS - CoV - 2 were enrolled, among whom there were 32 (37. 6%)pediatric patients infected with Delta variant and 53 (62. 4%)pediatric patients infected with Omicron variant, and there were no significant differences between the two groups in age, sex, body height, body weight, and comorbidities (all P > 0. 05). There were no significant differences between the two groups in alanine aminotransferase (ALT),aspartate aminotransferase (AST),alkaline phosphatase (ALP),gamma - glutamyl transpeptidase, total bilirubin, albumin, and cholinesterase (all P > 0. 05),and the pediatric patients infected with Omicron variant had a significantly higher level of total bile acid (TBA)than those infected with Delta variant (Z = - 2. 336,P = 0. 020). However, the median values of TBA were within the normal range and the ratios of abnormal TBA were no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0. 05). Among the 85 pediatric patients,10 (11. 8%)had a mild increase in liver function parameters, among whom 7 had an increase in TBA,1 had an increase in ALT, 1 had increases in ALT and AST,and 1 had an increase in ALP. The analysis of liver injury in the pediatric patients infected with Delta variant or Omicron variant showed that there was no significant difference in the constituent ratio of liver injury caused by the two variants (6. 3% vs 15. 1%,chi2 = 0. 691,P = 0. 406). Conclusion Mild liver injury is observed in pediatric patients infected with Delta and Omicron variants of SARS - CoV - 2,but further studies are needed to evaluate the long - term influence of such infection on liver function.Copyright © 2022 Editorial Board of Jilin University

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 (corona virus disease 2019) has caused serious impacts worldwide. Many scholars have done a lot of research on the prevention and control of the epidemic. The diagnosis of COVID-19 by cough is non-contact, low-cost, and easy-access, however, such research is still relatively scarce in China. Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) feature can only represent the static sound feature, while the first-order differential MFCC feature can also reflect the dynamic feature of sound. In order to better prevent and treat COVID-19, the paper proposes a dynamic-static dual input deep neural network algorithm for diagnosing COVID-19 by cough. Based on Coswara dataset, cough audio is clipped, MFCC and first-order differential MFCC features are extracted, and a dynamic and static feature dual-input neural network model is trained. The model adopts a statistic pooling layer so that different length of MFCC features can be input. The experiment results show the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the recognition accuracy, recall rate, specificity, and F1-score compared with the existing models. © 2023 Chinese Institute of Electronics. ABSTRACT

Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are increasingly initiated as treatment for type 2 diabetes due to favourable cardiorenal characteristics. However, studies have identified an increased risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). We carried out a retrospective, case-based study at East and North Herts NHS Trust between February 2018 and December 2020. Fifteen cases of SGLT2i associated DKA were identified in people with presumed type 2 diabetes;33.3% were classed as euglycaemic DKA with a blood glucose of <11mmol/L. All cases were associated with a significant precipitating factor including diarrhoea, vomiting, reduced oral intake and sepsis. One case was related to COVID-19. Two people were subsequently found to have raised islet autoantibodies suggesting type 1 diabetes or latent autoimmune diabetes in adults. It is important that awareness of SGLT2i associated DKA is raised among users and health care practitioners, including the recognition of euglycaemic DKA. Sick day rules should be emphasised and reiterated at clinical encounters. Non-specialists in primary care, oncology and in perioperative settings should be empowered to advocate for temporary withdrawal and there should be readier access to blood ketone monitoring when required. When SGLT2i associated DKA occurs, due consideration should be given to evaluate the diabetes classification and investigate the circumstances of the event. ABSTRACT

PurposeThe authors examine the volatility connections between the equity markets of China and its trading partners from developed and emerging markets during the various crises episodes (i.e. the Asian Crisis of 1997, the Global Financial Crisis, the Chinese Market Crash of 2015 and the COVID-19 outbreak).Design/methodology/approachThe authors use the GARCH and Wavelet approaches to estimate causalities and connectedness.FindingsAccording to the findings, China and developed equity markets are connected via risk transmission in the long term across various crisis episodes. In contrast, China and emerging equity markets are linked in short and long terms. The authors observe that China leads the stock markets of India, Indonesia and Malaysia at higher frequencies. Even China influences the French, Japanese and American equity markets despite the Chinese crisis. Finally, these causality findings reveal a bi-directional causality among China and its developed trading partners over short- and long-time scales. The connectedness varies across crisis episodes and frequency (short and long run). The study's findings provide helpful information for portfolio hedging, especially during various crises.Originality/valueThe authors examine the volatility connections between the equity markets of China and its trading partners from developed and emerging markets during the various crisis episodes (i.e. the Asian Crisis of 1997, the Global Financial Crisis, the Chinese Market Crash of 2015 and the COVID-19 outbreak). Previously, none of the studies have examined the connectedness between Chinese and its trading partners' equity markets during these all crises.

ABSTRACT

Helping professionals promote self-care amongst their clients: a proactive practise that enhances personal well-being. Yet, many struggle to engage in self-care personally which can lead to adverse health consequences and burnout. To date, little is known about helping professionals' views on self-care as it relates to personal and professional practise: especially during a worldwide pandemic where the demand for health-oriented services is amplified. Certified Professional Co-Active Coaches (CPCCs) are poised to offer unique insights into this phenomenon given their inherent focus on enriching client well-being. The purpose of this descriptive study was to explore CPCCs' experiences related to coaching practise and self-care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Semi-structured interviews were used, and data were analysed using an inductive approach. Twelve CPCCs (10 = female) participated. Four main themes emerged: a shift in practise;changes in clients;personal self-care practises;and professional self-care practises. Therapeutic empathy and setting emotional boundaries were identified as valuable coaching strategies. Participants also highlighted the need for intentional self-care routines to care effectively for themselves and others. Taken together, these findings may be transferable to other helping professionals, training bodies, and clients through an enhanced understanding of self-care during times of crises. ABSTRACT

This paper used regression and moderation approaches to evaluate the student's satisfaction with informatics towards the hybrid learning in their study. Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) identified student satisfaction based on hybrid learning difficulty and benefit ($p < 0.001$). Linear Regression (LR) found hybrid learning benefits impacted the student's satis-faction significantly $(p < 0.001$). Student's $t$-test also revealed that Overall Satisfaction (OS) significantly affected hybrid learning's satisfaction ($p < 0.001$). Analysis of Co-variants (ANCOVA) also proved that hybrid learning's benefit ($p < 0.001$) and OS ($p < 0.05$) significantly influenced student satisfaction. The paper also proved that hybrid learning's benefits positively correlate with student satisfaction (0.596). The slopes of 'Yes' and 'No' are substantially different from one another when the probability value of 0.22 $(p > 0.05$). Hence, no moderator (OS) affects the relationship's strength between the benefit and satisfaction of hybrid learning. The paper also revealed that hybrid learning's difficulty has a negative correlation (-.18), and the benefit of hybrid learning is positively associated with student satisfaction (.66). Implementing a hybrid learning mode during Covid-19 periods significantly impacted student satisfaction and the decision taken by the administration was also meaningful. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The cavernous sinus is one of the dural venous sinuses which plays an important role in venous outflow from the brain and eye sockets and in the regulation of intracranial circulation. We report a case of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis in a female patient with COVID-19. The disease often results in alterations of blood rheology, thrombosis in different organs, and septic complications. This article aims to raise awareness of healthcare professionals about the characteristics of COVID-19 that might cause septic cavernous sinus thrombosis in patients with severe comorbidities. Laboratory testing revealed severe comorbidities, including diabetes mellitus and liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C. They manifested with an impaired protein production in the liver and coagulation disorders. Systemic effects of SARS-CoV-2 on the vascular endothelium aggravated preexisting coagulation disorders and led to hemorrhage into retrobulbar tissue and clinical signs of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis, including swelling of the eyelids, bilateral exophthalmos, and ophthalmoplegia, followed by necrosis of the facial skin.Copyright © 2022, Dynasty Publishing House. ABSTRACT

Gallstone disease with advanced symptoms is one of the common abdominal emergencies during pregnancy and it is considered to be one of the most frequently reported non-obstetric surgical conditions in pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of surgical cholecystectomy in pregnant women with symptoms of advanced gallstones. This is a retrospective analysis of 2814 pregnant women who attended various wards in government and private hospitals in the governorates of Diyala and Kirkuk in Iraq for more than 2 years, between February 2020 and June 2022. The hospital database was used to confirm the diagnosis of advanced gallstone symptoms in these pregnant women. The incidence of symptomatic gallstones in pregnant women, diagnosis and method of therapeutic management, cholecystectomy according to the pregnancy periods, and perinatal complications of patients according to therapeutic methods were determined. The results confirmed that out of 2814 pregnancies, only 126 (4%) had symptoms of gallstones. It was found that the majority of cases 67 (53%) were within the first trimester of pregnancy and the least 29 (23%) was observed in the second trimester. Acute cholecystitis was the generality 84 (67%) diagnosed in pregnant women with symptomatic gallbladder disease and only 9 (7%) of the patients had undergone prenatal cholecystectomy versus 117 (93%) who were managed conservatively. A total of 20 (16%) cases with undesirable complications were recorded, where 12 cases with low birth weight were noted, where 4 of them underwent surgery and 8 were treated conservatively. It was concluded that a large proportion of women suffer from symptoms of gallstones during pregnancy. Most cases can be managed conservatively, and intervention should be performed as often as needed.Copyright © 2023, Codon Publications. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus illness, which was initially diagnosed in 2019 but has propagated rapidly across the globe, has led to increased fatalities. According to professional physicians who examined chest CT scans, COVID-19 behaves differently than various viral cases of pneumonia. Even though the illness only recently emerged, a number of research investigations have been performed wherein the progression of the disease impacts mostly on the lungs are identified using thoracic CT scans. In this work, automated identification of COVID-19 is used by using machine learning classifier trained on more than 1000+ lung CT Scan images. As a result, immediate diagnosis of COVID-19, which is very much necessary in the opinion of healthcare specialists, is feasible. To improve detection accuracy, the feature extraction method are applied on regions of interests. Feature extraction approaches, including Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Grey Level Cooccurrence Matrix (GLCM), Grey Level Run Length Matrix (GLRLM), and Grey-Level Size Zone Matrix (GLSZM) algorithms are used. Then the classification by using Support Vector Machines (SVM) is used. The classification accuracy is assessed by using precision, specificity, accuracy, sensitivity and F-score measures. Among all feature extraction methods, the GLCM approach has given the optimum classification accuracy of 95.6%. . © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has left millions of cases and deaths worldwide, in children the infection is less severe and has low mortality. A post-infectious entity called Systemic Multiinflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19 infection is described, which has a mortality rate ten times higher than acute infection in children. MIS-C is characterized by sustained systemic inflammatory manifestations associated with fever and multiple system involvement. We present the case of a schoolgirl who presented a diagnosis of MIS-C with a good response to management and 11 months later, she presented a second episode that also responded to treatment. To date, we have not found in the literature the report of recurrence of MIS-C in children, such as the case presented by us, it marks an important precedent, inviting us to consider recurrence as a possibility in the case of a similar clinical presentation.Copyright © 2023 Asociacion Colombiana de Infectologia. ABSTRACT

The objective of the research was to propose a conceptual model with the integration of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Dynamic Capabilities Theory, and the Contingency Theory, and with the review and analysis of the topics e-Service Quality (e-SQ), e-Relationship Quality, e-Trust, e-Satisfaction, Disruptive Factors, Technology Platform, Customer Involvement and Interaction, Value Co-Creation and Continuous e-Loyalty. E-service is strategically used to create brand value. E-commerce will strongly depend on trust. Therefore, online companies must make and maintain a loyal customer base. The face-to-face pre-purchase research, post-purchase feedback, website, and social media technologies have changed e-commerce into more social commerce. The imposition of accelerated technology, consumer interaction, and the fierce COVID-19 pandemic are the factors that most influence value co-creation. The current crisis and new challenges affect the quality of relationships, consumer loyalty, and value co-creation. © International Association for Computer Information Systems. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

A treatment method producing solid fuel from surgical face masks was developed to address the high cost of medical waste management and the environmental concerns of large-scale, hazardous waste dumping during the coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. The fuel properties were investigated of solid fuel produced from surgical face masks (polypropylene material (PP)) and from PP mixed with biomass (composite PP-biomass) using a hydrothermal carbonization process (HTC), followed by pyrolysis using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The Coats-Redfern (CR) method was used to analyze the pyrolysis kinetics and thermodynamic parameters. The results demonstrated that the thermal decomposition of raw PP material was less stable than for its hydrochar and the fuel properties of hydrochar obtained from the PP material were substantially improved using an increased HTC temperature. The activation energy value of the raw composite PP-biomass material was higher than for its hydrochar. This research identified an option for a potentially environmental-friendly treatment method for PP-material and its utilization as solid fuel.

ABSTRACT

Increasing waiting lists and a structural staff shortage are putting pressure on the health system. Because care production is lower than care demand, there is no longer competition. Competition is over and we are beginning to see the contours of the new health system. The new system takes health instead of care as its starting point by legally embedding health goals in addition to the duty of care. The new system is based on health regions, but does not require a regional health authority. It is based on health manifestos that include agreements about cooperation in good and bad times.

ABSTRACT

Spontaneous pneumomediastinum, pneumothorax, pneumoperitoneum, and soft tissue emphysema have been recently described in several sources as possible complications in patients with severe COVID-19 and lung damage. This clinical case is dedicated to demonstrarte the development of these lesions in 3 male patients with comorbid conditions. The putative pathophysiological mechanism of these complications is air leakage due to extensive diffuse alveolar damage followed by rupture of the alveoli. All presented patients had a favorable outcome of the disease without lethal cases, their laboratory data and clinical dynamics were described. It should be noted that such conditions are not rare complications of COVID-19, and are observed mainly in male patients with severe form of the disease and the presence of comorbid conditions. Such complications are associated with long hospitalization and a severe prognosis. In some cases, with a mild course of the disease and positive dynamics in a decrease of the percentage of pulmonary lesions, the outcome is favorable, not requiring additional invasive interventions.Copyright © 2022 Medical Visualization.
